What is DAS Alert?
DAS Alert is an innovative product designed to integrate seamlessly with existing Distributed Antenna Systems (DAS) to enhance public safety communications. It acts as a critical bridge between a building’s fire alarm system and the enhanced communication systems used by first responders during emergencies. By ensuring that fire alarm signals can prompt immediate and effective responses through a building’s DAS, DAS Alert augments monitoring capabilities and ensures that both building occupants and emergency response teams are well-informed and prepared to act swiftly.

How Does DAS Alert Work?
At its core, DAS Alert is engineered to connect directly to a building’s fire command center or annunciator panel. This connection allows the DAS Alert to receive direct alarm inputs from the fire alarm system. When an alarm is triggered—whether from smoke, fire, or another emergency—the DAS Alert instantly activates, transmitting a signal through the building’s DAS. This ensures that the alarm is communicated effectively across the entire structure, even in areas that traditionally have poor signal coverage.
The unit is equipped with form C relay contacts that allow it to interface with various fire alarm models and other critical systems, ensuring compatibility and reliability. It operates independently of the building’s AC power supply, thanks to its internal battery and DC power supply options, which provide resilience and continuous operation even during power outages.
Key Features and Benefits of DAS Alert
- Enhanced Safety and Communication: By providing a reliable communications link between the fire alarm system and the DAS, DAS Alert ensures that all areas of a building, including those that are hard to reach with traditional fire alarm systems, are alerted during an emergency. This comprehensive coverage is vital for large buildings or complexes where signals might otherwise be obstructed.
- Easy Integration and Low Cost: DAS Alert is designed to be backward compatible and easy to integrate with both new and existing systems, minimizing installation complexities and associated costs. This low-cost solution does not require extensive modifications to current systems, making it an economical choice for enhancing building safety.
- Independent Operation: The device’s capability to operate with both DC and AC power supply options, coupled with an internal battery, ensures that it remains functional even if the primary power supply fails. This feature is crucial during emergencies when power outages are common.
- Compliance with Local Regulations: DAS Alert is built to meet the current editions of local safety and communication regulations, ensuring that installations are compliant with all necessary legal requirements. This is especially important for public buildings and spaces that must adhere to stringent public safety standards.

The current edition of the NFPA-1221 fire code describes the requirements for monitoring the performance of Public Safety in-building two-way radio emergency responder radio coverage system with a dedicated component. This component is required to be located in the fire command center. Many jurisdictions, however, require that it be located in the same room as the DAS head end.
The DASalert ERRCS NFPA-72, NFPA-1221 Public Safety DAS Annunciator Panel is designed to meet these requirements and contains independent circuitry to monitor the various components of the emergency responder radio coverage system.
